Six months ago I delved into the spinach smoothie craze. That’s when this easy banana berry spinach smoothie and me became besties. And normally my food besties become my kids’ besties too.
Almost every single day you’ll hear my blender churning away. It always has milk, fruit and spinach in it. I change up the blends for time to time to spice things up and find the oh-so-perfect combination. The banana berry spinach smoothie wins hands-down for taste and wholesomeness — all in one gulp!
My five-year-old loves these spinach smoothies! It’s kind of “our thing” now. In fact, he gets offended if I make a spinach smoothie early in the morning and forget to save him some. Now my daily routine includes placing an extra cup in the fridge so he gets his spinach smoothie in for the day!
And I absolutely love to see him gulping down a shake that’s packed full of spinach, fruit and milk! But I often think about the kids who don’t get enough milk in their diets…
More than 46 million Americans – including 12 million children – get support from Feeding America® network food banks each year. Fresh milk is one of the most requested, but least donated items at food banks, meaning children in need may be missing out on the essential nutrients, including high-quality protein, it supplies.
You can help feed a childhood in your community this summer with a small donation at milklife.com/give . A donation as little as $5 can deliver a highly desired and nutrient-rich gallon of fresh milk to children who need it most.
While food banks provide critically needed nourishment – including milk – to millions of Americans, it can be difficult to meet demand. On average, food banks are only able to provide the equivalent of less than one gallon of milk per person per year.
The Great American Milk Drive, a collaborative effort between Feeding America, America’s dairy farmers and milk companies, turns online donations into gallons of milk for families in local communities. To date, the program has provided more than 12 million servings of milk to families across the country.
Milk is naturally nutrient-rich and powers potential – if you have access to it. Milk’s 9 essential nutrients, including 8 grams of high-quality protein per 8 ounce serving, can help to ensure that kids have the potential to play, learn and grow this summer.
