When the weather heats up, I’m constantly trying to think of fun and creative ways to get my kids to smile about drinking water! They get enough sugary drinks at spring and summer parties. I need to create fun memories around drinking pure water. Why? So my kids develop healthy habits early in life! Don’t you agree?
I’m super excited that NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® 8oz “Share-a-Smile™” Kid Designed Edition sponsored this post. The opinions are definitely my own because I’m a mom who believes in encouraging kids to be active, healthy and hydrated!
Has anyone ever asked you what makes you smile? A recent contest asked kids to answer that exact question. Parents were asked to have their children draw what makes them smile for a chance to win great prizes; including a chance to have their child’s design commercially produced and included on NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® “Share-a-Smile™” labels. From a panda and his pals floating through the sky, to a surfing hippo, to friends frolicking at the beach – you can’t help but smile and let your imagination soar with the new NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® “Share-a-Smile™” Kid Designed Edition. With NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® staying hydrated is not only easy, but also fun for the entire family. Now, that’s a fun way to encourage a kid to smile about drinking water. Way to go NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE®! High five!
In January 2017, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics released their latest data on sugar-sweetened beverage consumption — and it’s not pretty. The new report stated that more than two-thirds of children in the U.S. consumed at least one sugary beverage on any given day and roughly 30 percent consumed two or more a day. Gulp. I’ve been guilty of not staying on top of keeping water in and sugary drinks out!
Getting kids to drink more water can be a struggle for moms. Can you relate? We’re super busy and trying to “get it all done.” But kids who drink 4+ glasses of water each day are more likely to exhibit other healthy habits like eating fruits and vegetables and even getting their own water when they’re thirsty. It’s an awesome, super-healthy domino effect. And I want it to happen in my home — on a regular basis! Going against the current trend and getting kids to drink more water is certainly a challenge worth tackling! And if it’s worth tackling, it’s worth making the adventure fun!
NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® believes that drinking water should be easy and fun — for kids and adults alike. Their 8 oz water bottles are the perfect size for little hands. They’re super-cute, aren’t they?
Their portable size also makes them super convenient to grab on your way out the door and throw into a bag. Carrying a few with you on outings means that your family can stay hydrated throughout the day — no matter where the adventures of the day take you.
Want to encourage your kids to smile about drinking water? Awesome! Here’s my best of the best tips for you!
How to Get Your Kids to Smile about Drinking Water
*Get water bottles with fun labels like the NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® 8oz “Share-a-Smile™” Kid Designed Edition to make drinking water more fun.
*Make water readily available by having it accessible for kids to get on their own.
*Set the example by drinking more water for yourself. The kids will follow your lead.
*Pack water in the kids’ snacks and lunches rather than a sugary beverage.
*Take bottles of water with you on outings so it’s there as a handy option when the kids are thirsty.
*Place ice cubes or even fresh fruit in the water to add to its appeal.
*Include fun, colorful straws. Who doesn’t love those crazy straws that twist in all directions?!
Even though the contest has ended for the NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® 8oz “Share-a-Smile™” Kid Designed Edition water bottles, your child can use the printable below to draw fun pictures of the people, places, and things that make them smile.
This printable activity will have the whole family sharing smiles together! The rocketship that my daughter drew certainly had us both smiling. And I know whether it’s coloring at home, playing at the park, or designing her own rocket, water is an important part of keeping those smiles healthy.
Print off a copy of this fun printable to encourage your child to share the things that make them smile. And don’t forget to visit NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® for more ideas on how to make drinking water more fun for kids.
