This week it’s really starting to feel and look like spring around our area. The oak trees are sprouting new growth, the grass is turning a little greener, and the weather has been fantastic. To help things look a little bit more springy in the playroom, Riley and I made this adorable poppy bunting for the wall. It’s a super easy craft that makes quite the statement with its pop of color. Want to make one of your own? It’s easy.
You’ll need:
-water color paper or card stock
-red kids’ paint
-school glue
-poppy seeds (like you’d use for cooking)
-yarn or twine
-tape
First you or your child will need to trace the flower shape on the piece of paper. My drawing skills aren’t that great and I wanted mine to be uniform so I used this poppy template to make flowers on the wrong side of the water color paper (the wrong side is smooth). Then, my little artist painted her heart out on the textured side. Even though she didn’t need to paint the entire page, she did. After it dried, I cut out the flowers. Riley’s favorite part came next: adding the poppy seeds. Add a dollop of glue to the centers of the flowers and sprinkle the seeds on. In retrospect, I would have made the centers larger.
After your flowers are complete, it’s time to assemble the bunting. It could probably be done several different ways, but we used tape. We just taped the flowers to the yarn and put it on display.
