From one coffee loving parent to another, we’re going to talk about Starbucks drink sizes.
No one needs to be stressed about ordering the perfect drink or coffee!
Let’s keep it super, super simple!
- Tall (12 oz.)
- Grande (16 oz.)
- Venti (20 oz.)
This is basically fancy talk for small, medium and large.
So think…small equals tall, medium is grande, and large equals venti.
If you’re ordering tea, coffee or a hot ro cold drink, these are the size names for all of those.
And always know if you’re ordering iced or hot ahead of time.
You can irritate a busy barista if you can’ decide on iced or hot!
But there’s a little more to the Starbucks Sizes
Starbucks snobs know there’s two more size options…
Don’t worry, the baristas know too!
If you want smaller than a 12 oz. drink order ‘The Short’.
It’s an 8 oz cup of coffee that’s perfect when you just need a little to get you going!
And on the extra long days when you need more than a venti, try the TRENTA!
It’s a 31 oz coffee or drink!
Now that’s BIG!
Starbucks Sizes Explained Again
Let’s go over this one more time so it’s super clear!
- Short = Extra small, only available for hot drinks
- Small = Tall
- Medium = Grande
- Large = Venti
- Extra Large = Trenta (31 ounce)
Starbucks Info: How Many Shots of Espresso Are in Each Size?
Such a good question!
The number of espresso shots used in each size actually varies.
Iced and hot drinks use different amounts of espresso.
We’ll try to make it super simple so you can quickly get informed before you order your next Starbucks drink! :)
Short
Short drinks contain one shot of espresso.
Tall
Tall drinks have one shot of espresso. However, tall Americanos contain two shots.
Grande
Grande espresso drinks should be made with two shots. The Americano has three shots.
Hot Venti
When you order a Venti hot drink, you’ll be getting two shots of espresso. However, a venti Americano has…wait for it… four shots of espresso.
Iced Venti
Iced Venti lattes will have 3 shots of espresso.
Does Starbucks Have Rewards Program for Drinks?
Yes! This is how I get my Ventis.
Otherwise, I always grab a tall (that’s fancy for small.) :)

WHAT TIME DOES STARBUCKS OPEN?
Starbucks normally opens at 5 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and on Sundays at 7 a.m. Hours may vary by location, and many locations have shortened hours due to Co-vid.
WHEN DOES STARBUCKS CLOSE?
Starbucks closes at 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 11 p.m., and Sundays at 8 p.m. Those are normal hours, pre-covid.
Are Starbucks Iced or Hot Drinks Better?
It totally depends on your taste preferences.
I tend to go for iced in the summer and hot in the fall and winter.
