How to Make Taco Pie?

I can almost betcha it’s waaaay easier than you think!

First, you’ll want to preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Then comes your meat mixture.

Combine ground beef and taco seasoning (or your homemade mix) and cook according to package directions for traditional taco meat.

Once cooked, simply pour a small amount of beef mixture into the bottom of a 9×13 baking pan or your favorite baking dish.

I use all sizes!

Next, place a soft tortilla on top of meat mixture.

Spread the tortilla with 1/4 cup beef mixture, 1/4 cup salsa and 1/4 cup cheddar cheese.

Repeat for each later (think lasagna!) and then top off the top layer with remaining cheddar cheese as well as the Monterrey Jack Cheese.

Bake in the oven until cheese is melted and slightly browned.

Doesn’t that sound easy?

Want to get the kids involved in this all-time family favorite recipe?

Let them handle the layering and sprinkling!

When my kids were toddlers, I’d throw them on my hip, give them handfuls of shredded cheese and say, “Sprinkle, sprinkle!”

This always got a grin or a giggle!

If you want to shave off a few minutes, you could go meatless!

Just skip the ground beef and make the taco bake as usual.

Best Taco Pie Cooking Tips and Tricks

For a healthier kick, add frozen veggies!

Simple saute veggies in two tablespoons of your favorite cooking oil until soft, and add them to the salsa!

It’s a sneaky mom trick for adding veggies to every meal!

Pssst!

You can even blend the veggies first if you want to hide them reeeeaaalllly well!

Store Leftovers in Fridge.

In the rare case of having leftovers (ha!), store leftover taco pie in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Add some heat.

You can easily add heat with extra chili or jalapenos.

Be wise with your choice of cheese.

Use any good melting cheese for this recipe but I prefer Mexican blend or sharp cheddar.

Dress it up!

Serve this taco pie with your favorite Mexican toppings such as sour cream, guacamole and salsa.

Yum!
