This recipe is incredibly easy and may remind you (ok…it WILL remind you) of your favorite theme park (you know the ones in California and Florida) corn dogs.

The homemade version, of course, not the heat and eat version! :)

Ingredients Needed for Homemade Corn Dogs

All Beef Hotdogs

This is our preference, but turkey or chicken ones will work as well.

We prefer the flavor of the all beef version though and think you will too!

All Purpose Flour

You probably have a few cups sitting in your pantry!

Corn Meal

Yes, you absolutely NEED corn meal for this recipe.

Don’t try it with only flour.

Baking Powder.

Again, you probably have this staple in your pantry.

We try to keep our recipes super simple!

White Sugar.

Gives it a touch of sweetness…just like your favorite theme park, homemade corn dogs!

Shortening

This delivers the perfect texture in the cornbread layer on the corn dog.

Milk

Helps all the ingredients blend well to form the perfect batter!

Cooking Oil

For deep frying, of course!

Homemade Corn Dogs

These homemade corn dogs are perfect for when you miss your favorite theme park corn dogs! They're simple and quick, plus freezer-friendly!

Ingredients

  • 1 pack all beef hotdogs
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 c. corn meal
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tbsp. shortening, melted
  • 1 c. milk
  • 3 c. oil
  • 8 skewers

Instructions

    1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, corn meal, sugar and baking powder.
    2. Add egg, melted shortening and milk. Mix until smooth batter forms.
    3. In a deep pot, add oil and heat to 350°F. A candy thermometer works great to regulate the temperature.
    4. Pour batter into a tall cup.
    5. Skewer the hotdogs and dip into the batter.
    6. Place the battered hotdog in the hot oil spinning it as it drops. Fry until crust is golden brown. Rotate the corn dog to cook all sides evenly.
    7. Let cool and enjoy.
